Happy First Day of.....WHAT???

I'm trying to keep myself productive and busy, while I wait for the surgeon to call (evidently, he hasn't gotten to the vet's office yet...it's gonna be a long day!). I'm puttering around the house: changing bed linens, doing dishes, folding laundry, etc. and I happened to look out the picture window in my living room. Oh, HECK NO.....that is not snow falling from the sky. Not on March 20th and certainly not when I need some sunshine today. Did someone neglect to fill Mother Nature in on this whole seasonal change thing....the one where spring follows winter...and so on??? I actually closed my eyes, thinking I could wish it away. Take a look at the pictures and tell me if it worked.

Can it Be....Spring??????

I'm almost afraid to say it, for fear that we'll get hit with another Nor'easter tomorrow, but...today was an absolutely glorious SPRING day!!! The sun was shining, the birds were chirping appreciatively and I was like an overly-caffeinated Tigger all day long. I know that this is the time of year (every year) we New Englanders lament that it has been the longest winter in the history of the world. This year, though, it's true...it really is! I'm sure the meteorologist guys have pie charts and weather graphs that would dispute my claim, but what do they know? It has been LOOOOOOOONG!
Although I have a huge list of (inside) spring cleaning tasks to tackle, I just couldn't stay inside. I picked up pieces of broken planters/ pots that I forgot to move inside last fall, cleaned
up my gardens a bit and (only me!) got the hose out to melt away the one remaining pile of snow at the top of my driveway. I called three friends who, much to my consternation, agreed that I could not plant bulbs yet. I was advised to wait until I was sure there would be no more frost. Well, what if I am sure? Does it matter what the weatherman has to say about it???? REALLY! For once, I decided to heed the advice of the masses, lest my gardens fail to produce to their fullest glory. I suppose, since I've waited this long...

Spring Has Sprung...Yeah, Right!

Last week, I thought I could fool Mother Nature into bringing spring about a little early this year. I optimisticaly dragged my table and bench out from the garage and up the stairs to my front stoop. I hung my pretty, glass hummingbird feeder on my "Rose of Sharon" tree. Guess what? You really can't fool Mother Nature!

Winter Wonderland

I'm having a bit of difficulty with the placement of pictures in the entries, but wanted to add a few I took today, after my daughter & the pup got tired of posing. I especially like the picture of the gold star in the boxwoods. That was quite accidental. Evidently, the star fell off of the garage door during the storm and my landlord kindly propped it in the bush while he was plowing.

Did Someone Say "Snow"???

Not that it's unusual to have a snowy December in New England, but it would appear that Mother Nature decided to dump a whole winter's worth in 3 days! The children were, naturally, thrilled to wake up Friday morning to a day off from school. I was equally pleased, when it continued all day, to not have to go to work. Saturday was clear, so my vacation was short-lived. I was pleasantly surprised to find that things weren't TOO crazy, at work, after the loss of one precious shopping day. We woke up to more snow this morning and it continued through most of the afternoon. The kids and I are all teetering on the brink of cabin fever. I don't dare check the weather channel, for fear tomorrow may be another school cancellation and I NEED the day for last minute bustling about. I sure hope Mother Nature is listening and will take pity on those of us who aren't quite as organized as we'd like to be.

My little one braved the elements, with an (initially) reluctant 13 pound fuzz-ball, in tow. They had a fabulous time and I thoroughly enjoyed capturing their snowy smiles on "film".
